We are planning ahead!

With or without orders. And in our case… it’s without orders.  Because you can never be TOO prepared, am I right?

Last night my husband and I sat down and mapped out the next 6 months until our ‘pending’ move.  At this point we have talked to the monitor and are 90% sure of where we are going next…. and of course there is always the possibility that things will change. But. What we know for sure (almost) is that we ARE moving.

I printed out months from February to July.

(I printed them out using my email program on my Mac)

Then, I input all the events, trips, important dates that I knew we had coming up in the next 6 months.

These events included birthday, holiday weekends, dates the kids don’t have school, last day of school, dance recitals, spring break, vacations, business trips, etc.  Then my husband went through and added his important dates he knew of on his side.

We do this to map out what weekends we have available to do the little things we need to fix up the things around the house, keep us on track for our move, and to keep the communication lines open. I know that these last months at our current duty station are going to fly with it also being the end of the school year and right before the busy summer.

We have scheduled time to do some house hunting once our orders are received and I am really excited about this.  I was chatting with a friend of mine yesterday about our move and she and her husband are also beginning to search for a home.  She made the comment that moving every few years, to her, was very exciting.  She loved the new adventure, meeting new people, and experiencing new places.  I had to agree with her.  It is fun to change things up every once in a while.  Some military wives may not agree, but that’s okay.  I think we all deal with change differently.  And I feel very strongly about how your attitude greatly effects every aspect of your life.  So planning ahead and feeling good about our upcoming move will only help this process be more pleasant for all of us!

Plus… I just love planning ahead and feeling prepared!

So, back to the monthly planning.

We made small lists on each month of things we need to do during the month to prepare for our move.

  • Yard Sale
  • Listing our home on Military By Owner to rent/sell (we are not sure what we are going to do just yet)
  • Schedule Movers to pack up our home.
  • House Hunting/Schools/Preschool

And of course the lists will grow as our orders come through, and we have more of a set date on when we will check out and check in.

Our months are now pinned to the bulletin board in the kitchen so that it is easily accessible and we can add/change things on it as the time goes on.
